Portrait of an elder, regal Black woman in a deep maroon headwrap, inspired by ancestral strength. Her gaze is calm yet commanding. White cotton and real dollar bills are collaged behind her, layered with red text documenting census counts, cotton yields, and the $3.5 billion market value once placed on enslaved lives. Her sculpted features and rich tones of orange, burgundy, and brown stand in vivid contrast against the green currency backdrop. This portrait remembers the labor—and reclaims the legacy.
