Portrait of Ida B. Wells in rust, umber, and black, with palette knife-textured natural hair and brows. Behind her, white flag stripes are made of 3D text reading: “My word is feeble in comparison” — Frederick Douglass, followed by “BRAVE WOMAN,” “1920. 19th Amendment. Gave Women Voting Rights,” and “Lynching was an act of political terrorism…” Red stripes are blood-splattered dollar bills, symbolizing Black life as commodified. A wooden “400” in red, white, and blue marks 400 years of racial oppression.
